As was announced in August 2011, CoolTrainPix is moving to an invitation only Flickr Group.  This will allow for a more diverse group of photographers, more viewing options, and less work for me.  Please enjoy.  Eventually, all of the pictures on this blog will be removed.

BNSF on the Crescent Bridge

BNSF on the Crescent Bridge, originally uploaded by JayLev.

BNSF's Galesburg-Clinton train steps across the Crescent Bridge over the Mississippi River between Rock Island, IL, and Davenport, IA, on 1-6-10. Leading is the 502 (the Iowa Interstate dispatcher got a little confused giving him permission between E. Moline and Rock Island due to the engine number being the same as an IAIS engine number), and the 533 is trailing. This train would return the following day after working in Clinton overnight.

Peek-a-boo

Peek-a-boo, originally uploaded by RichardRuddle.

After anticipation through the sounding of distant horns, this eastbound intermodal finally reaches the west end of the cut and peeks its way around the jagged rock face.

NOW St Pancras London 27th January 2011

At St Pancras these days you have to walk a long way to get to the East Midlands Trains flat-roofed extension of a station. At least if you keep on the upper level the view is a good as it always was - if you ignore the champagne bar.

Signal 1728.1 under moonlight, Part III

Concluding my series from this location, a stop-and-proceed indication shining in the wake of an eastbound train casts a red hue over the ground. The light from a three-quarter moon filtering through a thin overcast gives a grey glow to this winter wonderland in the Cascade Range.
