This EMD SD40 led manifest train comes out of the icy fog on its journey toward Chicago. The length was about 4,900 feet, if I recall correctly.

Sitting on the MNA Connection at P-Hill is a 123 Car Empty KCPL Coal Train, MNA Train CLUNA9 15 about to hop onto the UP Sedalia Sub. for the rest of the trip into Kansas City. We took the train all the way over to 10th Street Fuel Track on the Kansas Side near the Fairfax District. Still got that SP trailing back there.

With volcanic exhausts blasting into the freezing air, these two JS class locos are setting out from the China Rail sidings with their train of 50 empty wagons, destined for the Sandaoling coal mine complex, in China's far western province of Xinjiang. The next 10 miles is an upgrade slog across the desert landscape, but the two locos are equal to the task. Probably one of the greatest steam spectacles remaining in the world, but later this year (2010) will see the introduction of diesels, making scenes like this a little bit more special for those lucky enough to have witnessed them.
